Police have arrested Abdul Alim Alraji, a local leader of the All India Trinamool Congress from Kalicharanpur in Nandigram. According to available information, multiple non-bailable cases are pending against him, and he had been listed as absconding for a prolonged period. Authorities have confirmed the arrest, although it remains unclear which specific case formed the basis for the action.
One of the major allegations against Alraji relates to the murder of BJP worker Rathibala Adhikari at Mansa Bazaar in the Sonachura Gram Panchayat area ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His name has also been linked to several other criminal cases, including allegations involving attacks on opposition party workers. Police records reportedly include multiple cases registered against him in connection with these incidents.
Alraji has also been accused in the 2022 bombing incident at Kanchan Nagar High School. The case was investigated by the National Investigation Agency, and his name subsequently surfaced during the course of that probe. According to the allegations, he was connected to activities related to the incident, which became one of the most prominent cases associated with the area.
Sudip Das, president of BJP's Nandigram Mandal No. 2 unit, welcomed the arrest and alleged that Alraji was involved in booth capturing during elections through the use of bombs and firearms. He further alleged that the Trinamool leader had links to both the murder of BJP workers and the school bombing case. Police have not yet disclosed the exact case under which the arrest was carried out and investigations into the pending matters remain ongoing.
